2014 Forest Race 1, Ballyboley Forest.
Tuesday evening saw the start of our annual forest race series. This year seen an increase in attendance with over 90 runners taking part in our first of 4 forest races.
On a perfect evening for running with no wind and sunny sky, the runners all set off. Early leader and ever improving NBH man Mark Mckinstry took to the front and held the lead until the finish, covering the stunningly beautiful but hilly coarse in 22mins 55sec. Mark was followed home by East Coast AC's James Brown in 2nd and fellow NBH man Martin Rea in 3rd.
There was a real battle going on for the first three lady's. Last years winner Louise Lemon ( Orangegrove AC ) was the leading lady at the 3 mile stage but was being hotly pursued by Larne AC's Rhonda Brady. The larne lady had managed to close the gap and eventually overtook louise to finish in 30.00 mins, with louise 12 secs behind in 2nd place. Janice Plumb ( East Coast AC ) followed closely behind in 3rd place in 30.46 mins.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who took part for supporting the event and we hope to see you all at the next race in the series which takes place in Woodburn forest on Tue 27th May at 7:30pm.

Yet another impressive turnout of competitors, for the 3rd race in our forest race series. 97 runners took to the trails in the stunning setting of Tardree Forest on a warm summers evening. Stark contrast to the torrential rain from earlier in the day. This made for some slippery conditions underfoot towards the finish.
On Tuesday 24th June 2014, we hosted the final race of our annual Forest Trail Series, which is now celebrating it's 10th anniversary. Record numbers have turned out for the Series thus far and despite wet conditions, a crowd of nearly one hundred hardy athletes descended on Woodburn Forest for Race 4, which covered an undulating 4.1m course.
We would like to thank all of the clubs and unattached athletes who attended and supported the series this year and we hope to see you all again in 2015.
