Club Handicap, Baird Cup 6 mile XC

Well done to everyone who turned out at 6 mile water for the club handicap Baird Cup.

The course was in great condition but the conditions were extremely cold. In the end it ended up a very close contest with Phil McNeil leading going into the last mile lap hotly pursued by Sammy Duff then Collin Davidson. Although Phil was pushed right to the line, Sammy made sure he kept the pressure on the leader, but Phil managed to maintain his lead with Sammy close behind followed by Collin.

Lowe Alpine Mourne 2Day Mountain Marathon

On Saturday 21st September Billy Reid (EAH) and his running partner Gerry Kingston (BARF), took part in this 2 day event. None of the runners taking part have any idea of the routes that they will be taking over each day as they are only handed their maps as soon as they reach the starting point.

Billy and Gerry (seen here) were sitting in 2nd place after day one and finished 3rd overall and 1st male vets by the end of the final day. A fantastic result for them both, considering Billy had just completed the gruelling 105 mile Du Mont Blanc Ultra Trail, only three weeks previous. We would like to thank Mourne 2 Day for letting us use this photo courtesy of their flicker gallery.

2013 AGM:

On Tuesday 10th of September we held our AGM in the clubhouse. The meeting saw the election of the Officers and Committee for the upcoming year. One significant difference saw the chairperson, Mrs Jeanette Burton, standing down. Jeanette was in the chair for two years and decided to give someone else their chance in the position. Long standing member of the club Norman Caughey was duly elected with no objections. Jeanette was thanked for everything that she had done for the club during her term in office and was presented with a bunch of flowers, which she emotionally excepted. She assured the new chairman that she would still be available for any assistance he may need during the transition.

Jeanette will of course be staying at the club, and was elected onto the committee. There were two other committee places available and they were filled by Tom Kane and Jim Finlay. The rest of the positions remained the same as the previous year.

At the meeting it was discussed about the importance of all of its members working together, for the greater good of the club. Members of all clubs not just our own, will always come and go but the club, our club, East Antrim Harriers will always be here.

Age Group Cat (M35) Steven Beggs

ITU Triathlon World Champion (elite men)

Javier Gomez who pipped Jonathon Brownlee on the line to win by 1 sec.

15/09/13 ITU Age category (35)  World Triathlon Championships in London.

EAH Steven Beggs travelled to London at the weekend to take part in the age cat (M35) ITU World Triathlon Championships ,Olympic Distance. On a day on which the weather was going to play a part, the 1.5k swim had to be cut short in order to reduce the wind chill factor during the bike and run transitions. Steven finished in 64th place in a time of 2hrs 00mins 02sec. After the race Steven was disappointed with his overall finish time, and thought he could have done better on the day. A tremendous effort from Steven as usual, and the entire club was behind you the whole way. Steven also said that the weekend was an incredible experience, one not to forget.

08/09/13, Titanic 26 extreme & Waterside 1/2 Marathon

Chris Collins who is a regular competitor in the 26 extreme races, managed to get himself onto the podium at the Titanic 25k. Chris is seen here picking up a bottle of fizzy stuff for finishing in a time of 1hr 48min 51sec to claim 2nd place. Congratulations Chris!

Sunday saw the final 1/2 marathon in the Pure Running series, The Waterside Half. Phil McNeill had another great run, clocking 1hr 26mins 35sec. Eddie Blayney who finished up 3rd over all in his age group category (M 55) in the Pure Running series,  ran 1hr 44mins 23sec.

05/09/13 Portglenone 5k.

On Thursday evening three of our lady's headed up to the Portglenone 5k. Marion Hayes bagged herself a new PB 26mins 25sec. She was helped and encouraged round by Jean Dolan 26mins 26sec. Carol Annesley was our first lady home in 24mins 22sec. Well done Girls!

Well done to Drew Knox on finishing in 2nd place (M 50) category of the Pure Running half Marathon series. Drew had an overall finish total of 9hr 04mins 53sec.

Another EAH on the podium was our club secretary, Eddie Blayney. Eddie finished 3rd in the overall standings (M 55) category. His overall finish time was 10hrs 23mins 54sec. A fantastic achievement for Eddie considering he had been plagued by a dreaded achilles injury for the past couple of months. Well done!

On Friday The 30th August, EAH Billy Reid took on the incredibly tuff Du Mont Blanc Ultra Trail Which starts and ends in Chamonix, in the French Alps. The race which covers 168K (approx 105 miles in old money) with a total ascent of 9600mtr. The race passes through France, Switzerland & Italy on it's way around Mont Blanc, so its not a case of don't forget your toothbrush, its don't forget your passport!

Billy had a fantastic race finishing as joint 1st NI competitor home. Billy and Dale Mathers (Newry City Runners) joined forces in the final run home to both cross the line in a very respectable time of 34hr 22mins 41sec!
